Brussels, 06/01/2014 (Agence Europe) - A group of MEPs is currently making an official visit to Portugal to investigate the work of the troika of lenders, which monitors economic reform and austerity in countries in receipt of financial aid from the European Union and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
A delegation from the European Parliament's economic and monetary affairs committee will travel to Cyprus on Friday 10 January.
The planned visit to Greece this week has been postponed until next week or even the week after that, according to some sources. The trip to Ireland is scheduled for 16 and 17 January.
On 19 December, the economic and monetary affairs committee unveiled a draft report on the work of the troika of lenders (European Commission, European Central Bank and IMF) in countries in receipt of financial aid (see EUROPE 10987 and 10986). The final report will include information on the outcome of monitoring missions in the countries in question. In mid-January, the economic and monetary affairs committee will hold hearings of EU Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Olli Rehn, former head of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet, and Klaus Regling, Director General of the eurozone's permanent bailout fund, the European Stability Mechanism.
