Two mergers given go-ahead

Brussels, 09/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 9 December, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to two mergers. (1) MHI/MHPS: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd (MHI, of Japan, ship-building, electricity generation, nuclear power, steel machinery and infrastructure, airspace etc.) is buying up new Japanese company MH Power Systems, Ltd (MHPS, thermal energy, geothermal systems, environmental protection plants, fuel cells, etc.). Japanese company Hitachi will hold a non-controlling stake in the company. The Commission says the deal does not raise competition concerns because the parties' businesses do not overlap much. (2) Vopak-Swedegas/GO4LNG: Vopak LNG Holding Sweden BV, controlled by Koninklijke Vopak NV (liquid chemicals and petrochemicals storage and maintenance, the Netherlands) and Swedegas AB (manager of Swedish high pressure gas grid - Sweden) will jointly acquire Swedish company GO4LNG Göteborg AB, which will build, manage, maintain and run a liquefied natural gas terminal in Gothenburg, Sweden. The Commission says the parties' businesses do not overlap. The deals were notified on 7 and 8 November and were examined using the simplified merger control procedure. (FG/transl.fl)
