The Commissioner Dacian Ciolos has reminded French players in the poultry sector that they had seven years to prepare for the end of European subsidies for exports of poultry, and that this decision was final. “If seven years is not enough time to prepare (for the end of subsidies), then I do not see how long you would need”, said Ciolos, on the eve of a meeting in Brussels with representatives of the sector, together with Agriculture Minister Stéphane Le Foll. “Tomorrow, we will talk. We will see exactly what the sector's expectations are”, Ciolos said. He pointed out that there were options in place to support changes in individual sectors. Between 2003 and 2013, France received €767.7 of the €887.8 million paid out in total by the EU to support exports of poultry meat, the Commission points out. Before the system came to an end in July, €41 million was paid out French operators for the year 2013. (LC/transl.fl)
