30/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - Change of head at Russia's consumer protection service. Gennady Onishenko's departure from the Russian consumer protection service, Rospotrebnadzor, (to become adviser to Russia's Prime Minister Dimitry Medvedev) “could indicate an increased willingness on Russia's part to abide by WTO requirements”, said Russian daily newspaper Moscow Times on 28 October, quoting the analyses of American lobbyists. Head of Rospotrebnadzor since 2004, Onishenko is at the origin or several controversial embargo decisions against European or neighbouring countries' agri-food products. The decisions were widely criticised as being political by a number of European political leaders. (EH/transl.fl)
