07/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - Mergers: DSL-Maastricht UMC/Device Company. On 7 October, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to the setting up of Device Company B.V. in the Netherlands, controlled by Dutch companies DSM R&D Solutions BV (part of Koninklijke DSM NV) and Maastricht UMC-Holding BV. The new company will manufacture and sell mobile infra-red devices for measuring pharmaceuticals, medicines and other products as an alternative to lab tests. DSM is active in food and animal feed, pharma products, high-performance materials and industrial chemicals. UMC creates and owns legal bodies that sell scientific discoveries in healthcare, nutrition and materials. The Commission did not find any overlaps in activities between either of the owners and the new company. The deal was notified on 5 September and was examined using the simplified merger control procedure. (FG/transl.fl)
