25/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - A post-2015 vision. Speaking on Wednesday 25 September in New York, at the opening of the high-level event organised by Ban Ki-moon on the global development framework for the post-2015 period, José Manuel Barroso, the President of the European Commission explained that sustainable development and the eradication of poverty were closely linked. His post-2015 vision consists of, “a world where every man, woman and child lives in dignity and prosperity…but also a world where we unite to address our shared global challenges, such as climate change and advance together on a more sustainable growth path”. Andris Piebalgs, the Commissioner responsible for development was delighted that peace and security formed one of the pillars in this future global framework because, “experience shows that eradicating poverty and attaining sustainable development in the contexts of fragility, violence and armed conflict, is simply not possible”.
