Brussels, 25/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - Speaking on Tuesday on behalf of the ACP countries (Africa/Caribbean/Pacific) which he heads, ACP Secretary General, Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni, expressed his consternation at the terrorist attack carried out by armed Al-Shabaab Islamist terrorists on Saturday 21 September in a shopping centre in Nairobi. On Wednesday, the final number of victims killed had risen to 67 (61 civilians and six police officers) as well as 175 injured.
Speaking in a press release published on 24 September, the Secretary General, “firmly and categorically condemned this odious crime against innocent civilians, which had left scores of people dead and hundreds injured”. He called for the perpetrators and leaders, “of this crime to be found, arrested and brought before the appropriate courts” (our translation throughout).
The Secretary General expressed the ACP group's solidarity with the Kenyan authorities and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. Mumuni urged the international community to step up its efforts to eliminate terrorism in the Horn of Africa and provide all assistance needed for restoring peace, stability and security in Somalia.
