European Cooperation Day on 21 September

Brussels, 18/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - A European campaign is underway to shine the spotlight on cross-border, trans-national and inter-regional projects and programmes. It will culminate in European Cooperation Day on 21 September. This is of particular importance this year, with the budget for territorial cooperation to be increased in 2014-2020, rising to €8.9 billion once the multi-annual financial framework has been adopted. European Commissioner for Regional Development Johannes Hahn hopes that the “funding that has been proposed will be confirmed, so as to bolster the good work they are doing and ensure their continued momentum into the future”. He explained that these programmes “actively improve the daily lives of European citizens across borders, by creating jobs, protecting the environment, strengthening health care services and investing in transport and energy infrastructure”. On this day and as part of this awareness campaign, more than 100 events will be held in 30 countries to communicate the results of the projects. (MD/transl.fl)
