Brussels, 16/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - During its plenary session on 12 September, the European Parliament adopted by a large majority (481 votes to 83) the report by Marie-Thérèse Sanchez-Schmid (EPP, France) on the cultural and creative sectors. The report recommends implementing a real drive to stimulate the development of these sectors, given their potential for increased growth, further boosted by the opportunities offered by digital technology. This drive comes through implementing regulatory frameworks on competition, through tailored taxation, putting in place new financial instruments and also training professionals, better distribution of European cultural works, the digitisation of heritage, translation, dubbing and subtitling, new business models, copyright protection, respect for intellectual property and an attractive legal offer, Sanchez-Schmid stated. The report also recommends pursuing investment efforts in these sectors - especially through the cohesion funds and regional funds. (IL/transl.fl)
