04/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - Moscow warns Chisinau against signing SAA with EU. As it also did with Ukraine (see EUROPE 10904), on 3 September Russia warned Moldova against signing the association agreement with the EU, adding that this would have “grave consequences” for the breakaway region of Transnistria and the free movement of Moldovan products and workers, for instance. Moldova is set to initial the agreement at the Eastern Partnership Summit at the end of November. The line taken on the issue by the European Commission is the same as it was for Ukraine. The spokesperson to Commissioner for Enlargement Stefan Füle stressed that the agreement would have no detrimental effect on relations between Moldova and its neighbours, including Russia. For Ukraine, the EU also stated that any external pressure was “unacceptable”. (CG/transl.fl)
