Brussels, 02/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - Tunisia has declared that it is prepared to return to the negotiating table for an agreement on the liberalisation of the air sector with the EU (similar to the Open Sky and Open Sky arrangements). The next meeting announced will take place in December this year, according to a press release from the Department of Transport in Tunis on Friday 30 August.
The Tunisian agreement first had to overcome domestic misgivings regarding the conclusion of such an agreement and convince its tourism industry of the need to modernise the air transport sector and its airport infrastructure.
According to the press release mentioned above, the first round, which took place in June, helped establish a “roadmap” and formally took note of the impact of this agreement on the Tunisian aviation transport sector, dominated by Tunisair, the national airline. The December meeting will signal the end of the exploratory phase of these negotiations. (FB/transl.fl)
