Brussels, 26/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The three films selected for the finals of the LUX Prize 2013 were announced on 23 July. The Franco-Italian film “Miel”, the British film “The Selfish Giant”, and the Belgian film “The Broken Circle Breakdown”, will compete against each other in European cinema screens this autumn.
It was in Rome, as part of the Venice Film Festival, that the finalists were announced. Valeria Golino's “Miel” tackles the subject of euthanasia, Clio Barnard's “The Selfish Giant” narrates the story of three teenagers, and Felix Van Groeningen's “The Broken Circle Breakdown” tells of a couple's fight for their sick daughter.
From October onwards, the three films will be distributed in all the countries of the European Union, with subtitles in the national language, during an event known as LUX Film Days. The viewers will vote to decide which film should receive a public mention and the winner of the LUX Prize will be picked in December based on the votes cast by MEPs. The Prize will be awarded at the formal sitting of the European Parliament, with the film makers in attendance. The winning film will also be shown at the Karoly Vary International Film Festival (Czech Republic) in 2014. (MD/transl.fl)
