New two-year campaign on passenger rights

Brussels, 27/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has launched a new two-year campaign on airline passenger rights. The reason for this new campaign is simply that passengers travelling by all modes of transport (plane, boat, train, coach, car) in Europe will be covered during this year's summer holidays yet barely a third of passengers are aware that they actually have rights.

To launch this campaign, the European Commissioner for Transport, Siim Kallas, took part in an event organised at Brussels railway station. Other events also taking place up until 28 June notably in Greece and Bulgaria. The commissioner affirmed that “this summer for the first time, holiday-makers can travel across Europe - from London to Lisbon or Ljubljana - knowing they are covered by passenger rights under EU law wherever and however they travel. But passengers need to know their rights to be able to use their rights. This campaign will put more information in their hands”.

This new awareness campaign will take the form of eye-catching posters in airports, ports, bus and train stations across Europe and leaflets and online information will be available in all EU languages on the European Commission passenger rights portal. This campaign will focus particularly on raising awareness of the new maritime passenger rights, and bus and coach passenger rights. (MD/transl.fl)
