Funding is key subject at sustainable energy week 2013

Brussels, 24/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - The debates at the eighth Sustainable Energy Week on 24-28 June, will focus on the role of the private sector as a significant source of funding and the efficient use of public funds available at national and European levels.

The agenda drawn up by DG Energy and the European Commission's executive agency for competitiveness and innovation, includes presentations on best practice for funding and a debate on how to improve regulation. A senior-level conference on 25-27 June, in addition to around 40 different sessions at the Commission's Charlemagne building and at the Committee of the Regions will help to get debates going, raise awareness and present and promote the most cutting-edge and innovative technologies in sustainable energy.

Commissioner Günther Oettinger opened discussions on Monday with a European sustainable energy awards ceremony for five different categories (communicating, consuming, learning, travelling and living) and the ManagEnergy prize, which rewards best practice in local and regional initiatives.

At the same time and during the whole of the week, hundreds of different sustainable energy related events have been organised in some 40 countries in Europe and elsewhere, in capital cities as well as in towns and villages. Workshops and exhibitions have been set up to explain to SMEs and households how to participate in collective efforts to improve energy efficiency. (EH/trans.fl)
