Brussels 24/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - Morocco is arguing in favour of the creation of “compensation systems” to benefit countries from which migratory flows originate, aiming to encourage diasporas to contribute to the development of their country of origin, working together with the host countries. The idea was proposed in Geneva on Tuesday 18 June at a meeting on the theme of “Migration development”, under the aegis of the OIM (International Organisation for Migration) by the minister with responsibility for Moroccans residing abroad, Abdellatif Maâzouz. He stressed that his country is the first signatory of an agreement on mobility with the EU.
Departing talent leads to a loss of skills in the developing countries and this requires coordinated responses between the countries of origin and the host countries of migratory flows, said the minister, who presented a “programme for the mobilisation of Moroccan skills” in the world. “Maghribcom”, which was launched in March of this year, is designed to publicise opportunities offered by sectoral development plans and to include them, by means of partnerships with public and private players, in the framework of bilateral cooperation with the countries of residence.
