Brussels, 07/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - In Luxembourg on Thursday 6 June, EU justice ministers gave the final approval to new rules introducing better support for the victims of domestic violence, who may soon be guaranteed aid across the EU. The new regulation covers protection decisions that apply across the EU and could enable the victims of violence to have protection orders issued in their country of residence apply across the EU. Most of the beneficiaries will be women. Research shows that around one in five women in Europe has been subject to physical violence at least once in her lifetime. This official adoption of the regulation on the mutual recognition of protection orders follows a vote at the European Parliament on 22 May. The criminal law section of the measures was endorsed at the end of 2011. (SP/transl.fl)
