Brussels, 07/06/2013 (Agence Europe) - In Luxembourg on Thursday 6 June 2013, Hungary accused the European Commission of taking sides in its recent report on the Charter of Fundamental Rights, published on 8 May, a report that it says is full of factual errors.
The comments were made by Hungarian Justice Minister Tibor Navracsics at a dinner of EU ministers to discuss fundamental rights in the EU. Hungary says it has been unfairly singled out and criticises the report for lack of the objectivity and balance needed for a report to be independent. Hungary accuses the Commission of ignoring the latest developments, like a court ruling on the retirement age of judges, of ignoring the continued dialogue between Budapest and the European Commission to iron out disagreements and says the report includes cases involving single market rules, which makes it a politically motivated document. Commissioner Viviane Reding's circles expressed surprise at his comments because they say that the report simply puts in writing the various stages of the disputes with Budapest. (SP/transl.fl)
