Brussels, 28/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - The European Commissioner for Regional Development, Johannes Hahn, will take part in the Committee of the Regions (CoR) plenary session on 30 May. Together with the CoR president, Ramon Valcarcel, Hahn will examine progress in the negotiations on cohesion policy reform for the 2014-2020 planning period. CoR regional member delegates will discuss the best ways to get programmes financed from European structural funds up and running quickly. The CoR also intends to present the findings of an internal survey assessing the progress made in members states in shaping operational programmes. The plenary session will also provide an opportunity for debating the “Youth Employment Package”, milk quotas and culture as a promoter of growth and job creation. Exceptionally, this plenary session will take place over the course of a single day, with the evening prior to the event hosting a conference on the fight against poverty and on social inclusion and the role of cities and regions in this field. This will be the fourth conference organised by the Committee of the Regions on seven EUROPE 2020strategy flagship initiatives. (MD/transl.fl)
