23/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Ethanol - ePure suspects circumvention of import duty in Finland. The European association of ethanol producers, ePure, is calling on the Commission to determine whether European customs law is correctly applied in Finland, where it suspects a company of importing a mixture of ethanol and gasoline from the United States without paying the import duty set out in Regulation 211/2012, whereby denatured ethanol, a blend of up to 70% ethanol and 30% gasoline, is subject to customs duty of €102/1000 litres. In the case highlighted by ePure, the blend consisting of 92% ethanol and 8% gasoline is entering the Community in Finland. The rate of 6.5% is applied as if the product were classified as a chemical, and it is allowed free movement within the common market. ePure also suspects that antidumping duties, which affect American ethanol, have been circumvented.
