26/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - EU to join European Convention of Human Rights. At the opening of the spring sitting of the Council of Europe's parliamentary assembly, the speaker Jean-Claude Mignon (of France) welcomed the agreement that the European Union would join the Council of Europe's Convention of Human Rights. He said this decisive step towards the establishment of a unified area of human rights protection in Europe sets an example of fruitful cooperation between the EU and the Council of Europe. He hoped that everyone would do their duty to ensure that the draft agreement comes into force as soon as possible. (VL/transl.fl)
