SECTORAL POLICIES / (ae) fisheries

12/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - Alain Cadec says Europarl TV is spouting Greenpeace propaganda. The European Parliament's television company, Europarl TV, has put a video on its website about the common fisheries policy (CFP) that uses images provided by Greenpeace. Alain Cadec MEP (EPP, France) says the video claims to explain what is at stake in reform of the CFP but is really simply propaganda from Greenpeace and other environmental NGOs, saying that fish are fast disappearing from European waters and trying to convince people that the oceans are in dire straits and the fishing industry is overshooting national fishing quotas by a huge amount. Cadec says it is not clear what the sources of the claims are and says it is unacceptable for the EP's television company to use public money to broadcast a propaganda film. He calls on the head of the EP to get the video removed. (LC/transl.fl)
