Brussels, 12/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 10 April, the Liberal Group at the European Parliament (ALDE) received a visit from Mahmoud Jibril, who was the acting prime minister of Libya after the fall of Gaddhafi. Jibril is currently the leader of one of the parties represented within the Libyan parliament, the Alliance of National Forces, which is one of the largest countries in that country.
According to information available from ALDE, Jibril expressed his concern regarding the growing division in Libya between the political, religious and military groups that threaten the stability of the country and its emerging democratic structures. He called for national dialogue and the end of internal squabbling. He underlined the duty of restoring police and security forces on which society depends for its stability and security and the future of foreign investment and economic growth. His host, Guy Verhofstadt, ALDE President, said it is essential that the EU should not ease its efforts at this crucial time for democratic consolation in Libya. (FB/transl.jl)
