Brussels, 09/04/2013 (Agence Europe) - Although the number of unfair trade investigations against Chinese products increased by only 12% from 2011 to 2012, the total amount of Chinese exports targeted by antidumping or anti-subsidy measures surged by 369%, Beijing states.
The Chinese Ministry of Trade announced on 8 April that China had been targeted by more trade-remedy procedures in 2012, the Xinhua agency reports. In total, 21 countries initiated 77 investigations against Chinese products, an 11.6% increase compared to 2011, according to the Chinese authorities. Measures involve the sum of $27.7 billion, i.e. a year-on-year rise of 369%. The antidumping inquiry triggered by the EU against Chinese exports of solar panels and their key components, for a value of $20 billion, is the most well-known case, the Chinese press agency points out.
According to Beijing, over half of all countervailing measures in the world are directed at China. This is a trend that is being confirmed in 2013 given that, since the beginning of the year, China has been targeted by 22 antidumping measures, i.e. a 22.2% increase compared to the same period in 2012.
