27/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - Resignation of Italian foreign minister. Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Giulio Terzi resigned from his post on Tuesday 27 March to mark his disagreement with the decision of his government to return two Italian marines to India last week. The marines have been accused of murdering two Indian fishermen while they were ensuring safety to an Italian oil tanker off the south-west coast of India in February 2012. The affair has created a diplomatic crisis between Rome and New Delhi. “I'm resigning because I've maintained for 40 years that the honour of the country, its the armed forces and Italian diplomacy must be safeguarded”, Terzi stated. While waiting for a new government to be formed by Luigi Bersani, Mario Monti will act temporarily as foreign minister. (CG/transl.fl)
