Brussels, 27/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - DG REGIO at the European Commission highlights 50 towns and cities that have wisely used the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to improve the standards of living and working in urban areas. A study, published on 25 March, gathers a range of sound urban practice made possible by European funding granted during the 2007-2013 programming period. Examples cited include the regeneration of the historic centre of Malaga, cooperation between Vienna and Bratislava for worker mobility, and the establishment of a high tech “business incubator” in Luxembourg. The 50 “success stories” are accompanied by informative dossiers to serve as inspiration for other urban areas and managing authorities, so that they might develop new solutions and work together in a constructive manner. Many of the projects in this study will be showcased in Brussels during the 2013 edition of Open Days, from 7 to 10 October this year. (MD/transl.jl)
