Brussels, 25/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - Bristol, Brussels, Glasgow and Ljubljana are the four cities still in contention for the title of European Green Capital 2015, the European Commission announced on Monday 25 March. They have been selected from the eight candidate cities by an independent jury made up of 12 experts, following an in-depth assessment of their environmental performances.
12 criteria were used in this assessment (local contribution to global climate change; local transport; urban green spaces incorporating sustainable land use; nature and biodiversity; quality of local ambient air; quality of the acoustic environment; waste production and management; water consumption; wastewater treatment; eco-innovation and sustainable employment; environmental management of the local authority; energy performance).
The four finalists will now go forward to present their vision, their potential to act as a role model to other cities and their communication strategy to the same jury in Brussels on 24 May. The European Green Capital 2015 will be announced at an official awards ceremony in France on 14 June 2013, hosted by the current European Green Capital, the city of Nantes. (AN/transl.fl)
