Brussels, 25/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - Improving the circulation and safety of motorways, whilst enhancing environmental protection is the objective of the €75 million loan agreed on 21 March by the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the APRR motorway group (Autoroutes Paris-Rhin-Rhône). The initial tranche of €75 million was agreed in November 2012, bringing the overall EIB funding for this project to €150 million.
With this loan, APRR will be able to continue its broad network modernisation programme to improve road safety and environmental protection at the centre of traffic flows between the Benelux countries, Germany, France, Switzerland and Italy. This project will involve increasing the pace of installing automatic electronic toll services and widening certain roads on the motorway where there are bottlenecks, in order to improve traffic circulation.
This project is part of the Trans-European Network transport initiative (TEN-T). Developing this initiative is an EIB priority. (OL/transl.fl)
