Brussels, 05/03/2013 (Agence Europe) - High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton and Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle have spoken of their deep concerns with regard to the recent legal proceedings leading to a possible annulment of parliamentary mandates of two members of the parliament on contested legal grounds. They also pay particular attention to the situation related to the case of the member of parliament, Serhiy Vlasenko, in the light of a recent petition to the High Administrative Court to possibly revoke his parliamentary mandate. “The law on the election of people's deputies establishes a clear, five-day time framework for the results of the elections to be challenged before the Courts. Legal proceedings which come months after the confirmation of the final election results raise political and legal concerns”, Ashton and Füle's spokespersons stated.
Reform in the areas of selective justice, the elections and the European agenda is a condition for the EU signing an association agreement with Ukraine. (CG/transl.fl)
