Brussels, 27/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 26 February, the European University Association (EUA) published a new study assessing implementation of (internal and external) quality assurance processes for doctoral studies in the European universities. Entitled “Quality Assurance in Doctoral Education - results of the ARDE project”, this report is the result of a study carried out over two years at 100 universities in Europe.
Given the acknowledged importance of training researchers, which is vital in order to build the Europe of knowledge, and the considerable increase in numbers of people with doctorates in the last several years, it has become vital to improve the quality and financial responsibility of doctoral education. According to the report, doctoral teaching is on the right track to achieve these objectives, as most of the universities have set various systems in place to improve quality. Career prospects for holders of doctorates as also improved considerably. 79% of the universities surveyed said that they offered support in terms of professional opportunities. (IL/transl.fl)
