Commission to continue cooperation with Cuba

Brussels, 20/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 19 February, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou met Mirtha Hormilla Castro from the Embassy of Cuba in Belgium to examine opportunities for collaboration in the education sector between the European Union and Havana in future years. The meeting was organised on the occasion of the rotating presidency of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which was taken on by Cuba in January. Vassiliou said she was delighted at the increase of university mobility between Europe and Latin America - thanks to various existing European programmes. She also informed the ambassador of the favourable consequences that the simplified framework provided by the new Erasmus for All programme (2014-2020) will have on student mobility - from which Cuba and the whole of Latin America will benefit.
