Brussels, 11/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - Last Friday, the European Investment Bank (EIB) granted a loan of €450 million to finance the windfarm at Butendiek, currently one of the largest offshore wind farm projects ever built in the German part of the North Sea. With its 80 wind turbines, the Butendiek will develop a total output of 288 MW. The investment required for this highly ambitious project will total €1.4 billion.
The Butendiek windfarm will be built 53 kilometres off the shore of Schleswig-Holstein and 32 kilometres west of the island of Sylt. Work is scheduled to start in the first half of 2014, with completion due in mid-2015. The windfarm will be operated by WPD, a renewable energy group specialising in wind power. (OL/transl.fl)
