07/02/2013 (Agence Europe) - EU embargo violated by Swedish national. On 6 February, a Swedish national was found guilty of having attempted to export highly corrosive resistant valves to Iran, which could have been used for uranium enrichment, at a time when the EU has an arms embargo against that country. A Swedish court has thus imposed a suspended jail sentence of three months on Shahab Ghasri, a Swedish national of Iranian origin, considering it “highly likely” that he was aware of being in breach of the embargo but also “unlikely” that he would do the same again. The court, cited by AFP, explained that Shahab Ghasri has often had dealings with Iranian clients and could not fail to know that there were trade restrictions with Iran. The valves were intercepted by the Swedish customs services in 2011. (CG/transl.jl)
