Four reasoned opinions on technical inspections

Brussels, 24/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 24 January, the European Commission sent several reasoned opinions concerning periodic roadworthiness tests to three member states. Finland, the United Kingdom and Austria have two months in which to provide the Commission with information on Directive 2010/48/EU which should have been transposed early 2011. Having failed to provide a response to a first letter of formal notice, the three countries have now received a reasoned opinion. Unless they comply with the Commission's demands within two months, the latter will initiate proceedings against them at the Court of Justice of the EU. Austria has received a similar second reasoned opinion regarding the roadside inspection of commercial vehicles (Directive 2010/47/EU), for the testing of braking and exhaust systems. Finally, Portugal has received a reasoned opinion on the functional and financial independence of slot coordinators in airports. The Commission was unable to find any reference to European common rules on the allocation of airport slots in the body of Portuguese law. (MD/transl.jl)
