24/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - Latvia and the Netherlands called to account on “renewables” directive. On 24 January, the European Commission sent a reasoned opinion to Latvia and the Netherlands for failing to provide information of the complete transposition of Directive 2009/28/EC into their national legislations. This directive promotes the use of renewable energy sources and should have been transposed by member states no later than 5 December 2010. If these countries do not comply with their legal obligations in this respect within the next two months, the Commission may decide to refer them to the European Court of Justice. (EH/transl.fl)
