14/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - Financial bailout: Nicosia wants rapid decision. In an interview with German newspaper Der Spiegel on Monday 14 January, Cypriot Finance Minister Vassos Shiarly urged the Eurogroup to make a speedy decision about the financial bailout for Cyprus in order to stabilise the financial markets. He denied rumours that Nicosia is turning a blind eye to money-laundering, pointing out that the government has introduced all the measures needed to deal with the problem. Shiarly said that a writedown of Cypriot bonds would not help because they are mainly held by Cypriot banks and the aid that has been requested is for those same banks. (EL/transl.fl)
