Brussels, 14/01/2013 (Agence Europe) - The EU-Tunisia Economic Consultative Council, set up at the initiative of Vice-President of the European Commission Antonio Tajani, will hold its first working meeting in Tunis on 15 January, a press release states. Tunisian Prime Minister Hamadi Jebali will take part. The Council was launched last November during a key meeting entitled “Business and Technology Convention” attended by a delegation of large European businesses led by Tajani.
The Council's objective is to form a framework of permanent dialogue between the heads and high-level representatives of European businesses and employers' associations and their Tunisian counterparts. Their task will be to initiate joint areas of work and to make concrete proposals with a view to strengthening industrial cooperation between the EU and Tunisia and to strengthening support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). According to an official press release several trade agreements and partnerships will be signed between European and Tunisian companies.
President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy will also make a visit to Tunisia on Tuesday 15 January. This will be his first visit there since he took over the Presidency of the EU. (FB/transl.fl)
