Brussels, 19/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - With an unprecedented total amount of almost €1 billion in financing, 2012 is proving to be an important year for European Investment Bank (EIB) commitments to supporting change in Morocco and the country meeting its economic development, modernisation and innovation priorities. More than ten large-scale projects have therefore been able to receive funding during 2012, in a variety of fields such as transport infrastructure (including rural road extensions), industry, agriculture, technological innovation, solar power and funding for the Ouarzazate site, for which the EIB has been the main European donor.
On Friday 14 December, EIB action in Morocco closed in 2012 with the signing of three new loans: - a €240 million loan for the construction of a new motorway between El Jadida and Safi; - a loan of €180 million for extending the electricity grid; - and a loan of €21 million for phase 1 of the national water purification programme.
