Brussels, 19/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - Google is close to reaching an agreement with the European Commission to ease the latter's concerns about possible abuse of a dominant market position by the US giant internet company. EU Competition Commissioner Joaquin Almunia said after a meeting on Tuesday 18 December with the head of Google that the parties had considerably reduced their differences since the start of their preliminary talks in July and had decided to continue talking to reach an agreement. The Commission is now awaiting detailed commitments from Google in January 2013, after which it will make a preliminary evaluation, outlining its expectations, which Google will have to answer in the form of binding commitments which could form the basis of a favourable decision, explained Almunia.
