Brussels, 14/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 13 December, European Commissioner for the Digital Agenda Neelie Kroes met the future president of the European telecoms authority BEREC for 2013, Leonidas Kanellos, who is currently head of the Greek National Regulation Authority (EETT), to discuss common plans for the year ahead in the field of telecommunications. “BEREC enters shortly in its fourth year and we both look forward to deepening our collaboration. Dr Kanellos (…) confirmed the need for a coherent regulatory approach as critical for the sector. He outlined his commitment to a continued and constructive engagement and discussion with the Commission, and I highly appreciate that spirit”, Kroes commented. For his part, Kanellos stated that he shared the same desire as the Commission to get Europe back to the forefront of the digital economy through enhancing investments in broadband and promoting competition. BEREC will thus work closely with the Commission on the proposal for a recommendation on the costing methodologies to define wholesale market tariffs so as to encourage the development of high speed broadband.
