Brussels, 07/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU27 research ministers will meet in Brussels on Tuesday 11 December for the last Competitiveness Council under the Cypriot Presidency, where they will give new input into the bid to complete the European Research Area (ERA) and introduction of the next framework programme for research and innovation, known as “Horizon 2020”.
Now that they have managed to reach agreement at the last minute on the regulation laying down the terms and conditions for research projects co-financed by the EU (see EUROPE 10708), the ministers will try to agree on a partial general guideline on two draft Horizon 2020 proposals. One is on the implementation programme for Horizon 2020 (establishing priorities and setting objectives) and the other on the European Institute for Innovation and Technology's innovation programme to decide on its work priorities for 2014-2020.
A conclusions document will be published on areas to expand the ERA. Minisers will discuss resources and future prospects for improved national cooperation in research and will take note of a progress report onthe draft Euratom proposal on nuclear research. (JK/transl.fl)
