Association agreement to be signed in November 2013?

Brussels, 03/12/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 29 November, the Commissioner for enlargement and neighbourhood policy, Stefan Füle, announced that the association agreement between the EU and Ukraine could be signed during the Partnership Summit in Vilnius, on 28-29 November 2013. During the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum he made a speech in which he declared that, “I believe that the Vilnius Summit could see the signature of the Association Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area, with Ukraine”.

He again underlined the fact that the EU's firm commitment to continuing political and economic integration with the Ukraine, “needs to be mirrored by determined actions of the Ukrainian government and the new parliament to address our well-known and oft repeated concerns”. European leaders have said that signing this agreement would be on the condition that the case of the former prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko and selective legal decisions being made are resolved.

Close of negotiations with Armenia, Georgia and Moldavia. The Commissioner also emphasised that negotiations of the association agreements with Moldavia, Georgia and Armenia could be concluded during the summit. “If we maintain the current pace of negotiations of Association Agreements, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas with these three countries and the reform process is being accelerated, then the prospects of finalising these negotiations by the time of the Vilnius Summit in November 2013 are good”, explained Füle.
