Brussels, 19/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 16 November, the European Union introduced anti-dumping measures for a period of six months on many different imported articles of Chinese ceramic crockery. According to the EU Official Journal published on 15 November, these measures will include further customs duties. In a joint press release published by the respective ministers for external trade and productive recovery, Nicole Bricq and Arnaud Montebourg, France welcomed the, “important and brave decision” taken by the European Commission. According to a report by the AFP, the Commission now believes that these measures should be extended at the end of the six-month period.
The Commission action was taken in response to a complaint lodged by European porcelain and earthenware crockery manufacturers. An anti-dumping proceeding was opened in February. At the end of its investigation, the Commission calculated that dumping margins on Chinese crockery imports ranged from 17.6% to 58.8%. It therefore decided to temporarily apply additional duties.
