Brussels, 15/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 14 November, the group of liberals and democrats at the European Parliament (ALDE) organised a conference - at the initiative of Corinne Lepage (France) and Rebecca Taylor (United Kingdom) - on the issue of medical devices, for which the European Commission has recently proposed stricter rules. The conference examined how legislation can help improve health safety, particularly for breast implants. “The draft proposals (…) provide a good basis for addressing the challenges of medical device regulation (…) It is now time for the Parliament to examine the proposals in detail”, said Taylor. In Lepage's view, all aspects should be discussed “including sensitive subjects such as the opportunity to create an authorisation system for the marketing of the most at risk products”.
