Cairo, 14/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 13 November, the European Commission approved two new support programmes for the creation of jobs and the training of young people in Egypt - for a sum of €120 million. The aim of the programmes is to support the creation of jobs for unqualified young workers and the improvement of technical and vocational education training.
According to the Commission, this new support will provide immediate short-term job opportunities for 82,000 workers in small infrastructure projects in the poorest regions of Egypt - projects such as protection of the banks of the Nile, improvement in rural housing and road conditions, and the management and collection of rubbish. This programme for employment will be given €70 million.
With an envelope of €50 million, support for technical and vocational education training should enable young people to improve their competences in order to be more fit for the employment market - with particular focus on the tourism sector. Two million pupils from technical secondary education should benefit from the funds of the European programme.
These programmes are part of the overall European financial aid to support the transition in Egypt. (CG/transl.fl)
