Brussels, 13/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - According to a Commission press release published on Tuesday, the directive granting basic rights to victims of crime in the EU will be published on Wednesday 14 November in the EU Official Journal. Member states, with the exception of Denmark, which is not included in this legislation, will have three years to implement this text. It stipulates that victims of any crime: crimes of violence, aggravated burglary, assault, rape, harassment, hate crimes, terrorist attacks and human trafficking, will have a whole raft of rights at their disposal, wherever the crime in question has been committed. The directive will, for example, compel member states to ensure that victims and the members of their families receive free and readily accessible assistance (such as psychological support) from the moment the crime has been committed and during and after the investigation and trial, wherever the offence has been committed. Services providing specialised assistance will also be set up to help victims with specific needs, such as victims of domestic violence or children. (SP/transl.fl)
