Shiarly says progress expected later this week

Brussels, 13/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - Upon his arrival at the ECOFIN Council on Tuesday 13 November, Cypriot finance minister Vassos Shiarly said the talks with the troika (the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund) over a financial bailout package for Cyprus should lead to a positive outcome by the end of the week. On Monday, eurozone finance ministers put pressure on the Cypriot government to reach rapid agreement on the measures in the financial aid programme requested in June 2012. An agreement should already have been reached by now, said Euro Commissioner Olli Rehn. Christine Lagarde, the IMF director general, said that the capital requirements survey currently being carried out would be completed at the end of November or early December. (EL/transl.fl)
