Brussels, 12/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - The largest electricity transmission system operators in the world are to work in favour of an energy transition and the adaptation of the electricity systems.
In a joint declaration adopted on 7 November, the 16 largest electricity transmission system operators (TSO) in the world pledged to accompany the transformation of the energy sector, including the progressive integration of renewables, and to further reinforce their cooperation for the reliability of the electricity networks. Nearly €700 billion will need to be invested over the next ten years in the electricity networks in order to ensure the transition towards a lower-carbon world. This transition presupposes, amongst other things, a move towards a new energy mix, with a massive increase in the production of renewable energy, innovations regarding electricity storage solutions, initiatives to better cope with electricity demand, and the development of fleets of electronic vehicles.
Under the banner “GO 15”, these 16 TSOs are: Kpx (South Korea), Miso (United States), National Grid (United Kingdom), ONS (Brazil), PJM (United States), PGCIL (India), RTE (France), SGCC (China), CSG (China), SO UPS (Russia), Tepco (Japan), Terna (Italy), Eskom (South Africa), REE (Spain), Elia (Belgium) and Aemo (Australia).
