07/11/2012 (Agence Europe) - Lithuanian Embassy in Belarus is attacked. The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry announced, on Wednesday 7 November, that the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission in Vilnius would be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in protest against the attack the previous evening when two Molotov cocktails were thrown at the Lithuanian Embassy in Minsk causing a fire that was brought under control. “He will be asked to ascertain that Belarus, as the hosting country, ensures implementation of the provisions of the Vienna Convention in connection to safety of diplomatic missions, and relevant Belarusian institutions take the necessary action without delay to identify those behind the attack and bring them to justice”, a press release from the Foreign Ministry reads. It states that Lithuania will take measures to step up the safety of its diplomatic missions and that it is ready to send experts to take part in an investigation on the incident. Belarus' national day falls on 7 November, which commemorates the anniversary of the 1917 Russian revolution. (CG/transl.jl)
