Brussels, 29/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - Turkey has given its categorical support to the water purification project in Gaza (Palestine) and is examining the scale of its commitment in covering the costs of the project, which are estimated at around €310 million.
The Deputy Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM), Rafiq Husseini, accompanied by the Palestinian Authority's minister for water, Dr Shaddad Attili, held discussions last week in Turkey with different economic and financial leaders in the country. The project for building a water purification factory in Gaza with a capacity of 100 million m³ and a distribution system, is one of the UfM's priority projects and will help to rectify the significant drinking water deficit experienced by the 1.6 million inhabitants. Arab countries and France have already made a financial commitment in this connection. The European Investment Bank will fund technical assistance with a view to the implementation of the project.
