Brussels, 25/10/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 25 October 2012, the EU27 Member States said at a meeting in Luxembourg that they will clamp down on human trafficking and make 2016 the European Year of Fighting Human Trafficking, as they explain in a conclusions document issued after the meeting. The document points out that the Member States pledge to transpose without delay EU Directive 2011/36/EU on tackling and preventing human trafficking and protecting victims, and to ratify without further delay the United Nations agreement on preventing, repressing and punishing human trafficking, particularly people who traffick in women and children, along with ratifying a Council of EUROPE 2005 convention on tackling human trafficking.
